First Responders

The men and women who serve in the law enforcement, firefighter, and emergency medical communities operate in unique cultures that often impact them far beyond the workplace. The daily routine is anything but routine as each day comes with dangers, surprises, and complex challenges that most others will never face. These are proud communities in which each person often places his or her safety into the hands of partners, creating strong bonds of trust and pride. However, the relentless stress, hypervigilance, trauma, and life and death stakes can take their toll, mixing their bravery and selfless service with disillusionment, frustration, second guessing, self-doubt, and isolation from loved ones. As a career military couple who has worked with first responders, David and Suzanne have experienced the pressures that come with serving in these kinds of closed communities. They realize the powerful stigma that works against seeking mental health counseling, and the impact on families that do not get help. They bring a no-nonsense approach to helping first responders, and offer discounted rates for first responders who do not wish to use their health insurance to seek counseling.
